Yep, the secret is out. Flash adds an element to the photographers toolbox that enables lots of creative freedom. Photographers are pooling their knowledge and offering hand-outs on tips, techniques and often or not, movies on what or how they do what they do.
Thanks to a FF reader, today I was directed to a writeup in the USA Today about the emerging FLASH photography industry. Flashflavor gets props in the article as one of the contributors to the growth with the flash craze.... I'm honored to be listed among these awesome artists and innovators within the industry.
Definitely read the full article
I believe now is one of the most exciting times to be a photographer as the development of digital photography seems to be getting better and better with HUGE sensors, outstanding optics, and flashes blazing. At any given moment a photographer of any skill set (including myself) can launch a site or forum where the answer to their questions WILL be. Its only a matter of time before we are inundated with ideas and solutions where 10 minutes before, I was scratching my head.
If that lame guy from flashflavor would only WRITE more eh? Sorry FF readers...i'll keep in touch, promise :)

One of my favorite portrait poses is on the beach, with a setting sun in the background. The low sun provides a natural hair and rim light, while my 2 off-camera flashes light the front of the subjects (people in this case). The flashes provide a very natural looking fill light that when dosed well, will not look like artificial lighting at all!
Hey Scott, if you’re going to be the homophonic spelling police (and it’s a worthy job…), watch out for your possessive pronoun there, it’s ‘its’, not it’s… ‘not only for its educational side’. ;-)
Thanks Man...cleaned up the sensor…
on the go lights are so nice...just small and low power and portable.... takes up no room and opens up a room at the same time :)
Cheers!

I love what you do and congrats on the write up. I do credit you with the developement of my ability to light well, especially with “on the go” small lights. I’ve referred so many people to your blog not only for it’s educational side, but the inspirational imagery as well. Quick spelling police though… you spelled the camera form of “sensor” like the preventative “censor.”
