back to playa del carmen
posted on Friday, June 13, 2008 in Photographers
I was Stateside for 2 weddings and have returned to Mexico for a few more weeks to close out the season here. We are taking 3 weeks off in July and even more time off in August.
After spending time away from the wife, its good to see some of Sol Tamargo. Its especially nice to turn around to see one of her killer images staring me in the face. I love this flashflavor image with the bride and groom walking, shutter drag, some kewl editing.
She was in bright sunlight and used our Pocket Wizards to transmit to a slave Nikon 2b-28 at 1/2 power.
Sol has some nice stuff on her blog. We are getting ready for a new blogsite design for www.delsolphotography.com, so look for way more and way BIGGER images coming soon. At this point, we are trying to recover from early 65 weddings so far this year. Production is pretty thick around here :)
Currently looking for hot submissions. If you have something sexy, please send it my way.
Cheers!

PS. I was informed that a local coordinator recently abused copyright and regarding some of our images and used them for their promotion for their upcoming season in the current edition of Quinta Magazine in Playa del Carmen. Dealing with immoral people who abuse the copyright system really sucks. We put logos on a lot of things, these people actually cropped out our logo on 3 photos for the add, lovely! Dear WC, if you are are reading this, we pro photogs would like you to know that screen grabbing imagery for commercial use is not liked very much :(

Hey Matt,
Great stuff - always nice to visit your site.

Guys, thanks for the comment... the photoshop trick .. very simple, some blur + some warming filter.
:)
Amen! That stinks! Don't put to much energy into it...keep forging ahead...stinky people will always stink.
:)
Thanks for the feedback. I get depressed sometimes that I'm not writing enough on FF... I'm working on it...
Ryan, we have a crew of 4 artists in the editing room (sol & myself included). 2 outside shooters and our system seems to be on a 4 week turnaround when we have 10+ weddings per month. I asked the photo thief for $250 stock image usage fee for an add that would run for 6 months -1 issue. :( not going to happen..
Jakob. thanks for hangin in there! we will be posting more of our crazy shoots here soon!
scott...nice frame! I love the rim light!
Cameron. we are crazy! How loco is it to be a new mum? I bet you are loving life. Check out Cameron's new baby: http://cameronclarkphotography.blogspot.com/2008/04/maternity-leave-owen-update.html
GE. Sol's photoshop recipe is her property...she wont even share it with me :) I'm not sure what she used here, a blur action with some interesting tinting. Its almost an antiquing.
Morgan. thanks for your support! we are crazy... mixed up team in 2 countries, multiple artists, lightroom has sped things up for us! We actually have our own graphic designer / photographer in Atl. Her portfolio is www.delsolphotography.com/melissa Melissa shoots weddings for me and edits and designs books... she also is my dedicated Fed Ex gal.... we have assigned little tasks all over the place! Album designs usually take 2 days. We do a suggested design based on the story of the wedding day.. usually we end up with upgraded books due to the fact that there are too many awesome moments to stuff in there!
cheers & thanks again for chatting!

AMAZING as usual! 65 weddings, are you guys crazy?! (: Glad to hear you are taking time to relax in the coming months! I can't even imagine the back-up system you have working to archive all those images. Just curious - what kind of time do you guys do you spend on album design? Do you find that most of your destination clients want books? I'm sure you have a team of designers for that but I'm just curious since design/review can be a time consuming layer.
"Kewl editing"... yes, I sense some photoshopping at hand here! Care to share the recipe? It's very nice!
say what? 65 weddings? ?Are you loco? Well, if anyone can do it and do it well, you guys can :) -- Love this image, Sol. I shot a cool church 'flash flavor' shot with PW this past weekend, hoping it came out... haven't downloaded it yet.
Here's a shot I got from my most recent wedding. It made me think of you guys. Thanks for sharing your images and your ideas. Keep up the amazing work.
Mat/Sol,
This is an amazing image. I have followed your blog for a few months, and I am very impressed with your photography. It is very inspirational.
Thanks for continuing to share your photos on the blog despite the people who attempt to nick them.
Cheers,
Jakob
Amazing Shot! You must have a massive crew to be shooting so many wedding at such a high calibre. Hats off you all the members of your crew... and for the steeling photos - be flattered by what they can't reproduce! But some compensation I'm sure would be nice.
